I thought I’d give getting up early and jumping on the trainer a try. Ugh, that sucked. It sure is hard getting up at 6:20 am and going down on the trainer to start your day. I could only eek out 2 miles before having enough. I guess that’s better than nothing.
So I just bought a used trainer for my bike. It’s going to be great for the winter when I can’t get out riding. Since it’s “new,” I’ve been using it the past few days to get the hang of it. It’s not the same as riding a bike, but it’s not bad though. It still kicks your ass and makes you sweat, probably more than when you’re on a bike (well depending on where you’re riding). The trick to a successful ride on the trainer is to find a good video to watch. I found this one:
Do you use a trainer at all? What tips can you share with me?
Many people call this time the off season for cycling. It’s starting to get cold and cyclists are moving indoors onto their trainers. But in fact, this is the prefect time to be riding outside.
The leaves are changing, the air is brisk, the riding is good when you’re not over heating with the heat of summer. Now, in my opinion is prime time for cycling.
What do you think? What’s your favorite time to cycle? When do you throw in the towel and go indoors on a trainer?
Today’s ride was a solid one. 12.9 miles good riding and a nice bite in the air. I definitely feel that all my cycling is making me stronger and healthier, which I need since I tend to eat quite a bit on the weekends. Especially at birthday parties.
I’m still testing the Garmin Edge 520 for a review I’m going to write on Geekbeat.tv. So stay tuned for that.
Here are today’s stats:
And here are some pics from the ride:
So we’re due to get a hurricane or a tropical storm in the next day or so. That explains the amount of wind out there. My God it’s windy. Today I ended up just doing a circuit for 4 miles around the neighborhood. Wish I could have done more, but something is better than nothing. I practiced my handling going in a circuit, which was good practice. so I got some benefit from the ride.
I think it’s time to bring out the Fall gear and buy some more. I only have one pair of bike pants and 1 long sleeve jersey. Also got to look into getting that trainer for the basement for when it’s snowing and WAY TOO COLD.
That’s all for now.
I’m lucky enough that companies send me stuff to test out and review. The latest goody that I got to test and try out is the Garmin Edge 520 cycling computer and GPS.
I just got it today and hooked it up. I took it out for a quick spin and so far it’s great. I’ll post more as I use it more.
That’s all for now.
Today I went out for a short 4.6 mile ride. I felt like I needed to get back on the bike, since I barely did any riding last week and none this weekend. Fall is in the air and I want to get my outside riding in before it gets too cold.
It’s going to be rainy the rest of the week, I hope to get out. We’ll see.
All for now.
Fall is by far the best time to bike. The leaves are changing on the trees and it’s not blistering hot. At least not where I am. I can’t wait to get out on my bike tomorrow. Can’t today, it’s Yom Kippur.
All for now.
Hey all, I’ve created a team for the Tour de Cure. The Bipedal Diabetes Killers. The American Diabetes Association ride to find a cure to Diabetes. You can donate and/or join, we’d love your support and to have you on our team.
On a completely, but somewhat related, topic. I’m still suffering from these damn allergies. They came out of nowhere and now it’s making everything harder. I still managed to get out for an 8 mile ride today, but it was tough. It was helpful that my bike was just tuned up by John over at Cycle Sports and she’s running like a dream.
Do you go out when your allergies are flaring up? Post your thoughts in the comments below.
So today I went out with Eric, Cycle Sports, and his two customers Jim and Brenda. We rode to the Delaware River and back. It was such a great ride. I doubled the amount of miles I normally do by double. I’m a little sore because of crappy bike pants that are 15 years old (should have worn the new pair), but overall I feel GREAT!
Tomorrow is the Bucks County Classic bike race in Doylestown. I’m volunteering as a race course marshal to make sure people are safe along the course. Should be fun.
All for now.
