I remember where I was when I heard the horrible news.
I was standing at the McNeill Science Center, at what was then called, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (it’s now St. Joseph’s), talking to a colleague at WordCamp Philly. WordCamp Philly is a regional conference about all things WordPress.
When I heard, I had to sit down. So many innocent people gunned down because of one man’s hatred of a people that were different than him.
Five years later Israel is at War with a terrorist organization that committed the worst massacre of Jews since the fucking Holocaust (1400 people).
Why is being a Jew such a target?! Ugh
Look, I’m not for Netanyahu in any way or putting illegal settlements in the West Bank. I’m also not for leveling Gaza to get rid of Hamas. There’s got to be a more surgical way to get Hamas without killing so many innocent Gazans.
This world is going to shit. And I’m less scared for myself, but for my son who is going to, hopefully, be around much longer than me.
I’ve never really be a religious Jew. But this anniversary and the constant reminder of what’s going on in Israel, just reminds me of how awful people can be to each other.
It’s gotta stop.
