I Went iPhone.

Picture of an iPhone in front of a Macbook standing up. with a microphone cover to the right. Says: I went iPhone

Yes, Mr. Android went iPhone. I did it for a number of reasons. First of all we got the 11 yr old kiddo a data/phone line, so it made sense for us to all be on the same platform. Apple tends to be more secure, keyword on tends, so we went that route.

I’ve also been iPhone curious for a while now. Apple, makes great hardware and its software seems to be good, albeit very fucking confusing coming from Android.

One thing I appreciate is that Apple is just evil. It doesn’t pretend to not to be like, cough… cough Google.

I used to be a Google Fanboy as many of you remember, I was all about Google+ and Android. But this love affair has gone south as they keep killing good tools and doing really nefarious things with peoples data etc.

iPhone Is Great… T-Mobile Not So Much

We switched to T-Mobile, which I thought would be a good idea. But my goodness the transfer to a new wireless carrier has been a fucking train wreck. The sales rep at T-Mobile messed up and didn’t give us the right trade-in value for our phones and didn’t get us the right promotions. I want to give him an out that he’s just had a dumb moment and that he wasn’t being a total asshat and trying fuck us over. Here’s hoping we get that all fixed today! Too many calls, by my wife to T-Mobile customer service and it’s still in the works. πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

Overall I’m Enjoying The Phone

The phone is great. Though screen time is annoying as fuck. You can’t set custom allowed time. The only choices are 15min, 1hr, or All Day. WTFF!!!! And to top it off the app we used to use on Android that worked great, though being on Apple, doesn’t work, because Apple is a control freak and doesn’t give them access they need. This is a good thing for the most part, but not in this situation.

I’ve found some great Apple-only apps for Mastodon and Lemmy.

Ice Cubes for Mastodon and Artic for Lemmy are great and only ask for donations and don’t hold features hostage. Check them out!

So that’s the latest. I’ve gone iPhone. Still Windows 11 for the computer but the next one will probably be a Macbook Pro. Windows 11 is too fucking buggy for my liking.

  1. @seth @pch curious what you define as β€˜evil’ in this context? Not wanting to argue, as your post is really well balanced. For me, at least, I see Apple not needing to be evil with our personal data because we pay for their products and services. But I’m also curious what I’m maybe overlooking ?

    1. @jsbilsbrough @seth more of the lock-in than anything else.

  2. @seth as far as Windows 11 – it’s your pc too. Windows 11 is rock solid on many other machines. I would look at upgrading to a better laptop before going to Mac.
