Billy Joel Documentary On HBO Max

HBO Documentary 2 part series "Billy Joel" and So It Goes

Just saw this great documentary (part one of two) on Billy Joel — Billy Joel: And So It Goes.

He is such a talented guy and his music is amazing.

I never knew how autobiographical his songs were. This documentary really makes me appreciate his music even more than I did before.

The first part of the two part documentary covers his time from his start to the end of the 1970s.

It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows and man, he’s not nearly as wholesome as I thought he was. But then again, he is a rocker.

The people talking about Billy in the documentary is star studded and of course you hear from the legend himself.

This documentary (so far I’ve only seen the first of the two parts) is worth watching.

The story behind the music is fascinating.

Check it out on HBO Max!

7/26/2025 Update… Saw Part 2:

Part 2 of the documentary finished up to current day Billy’s story. Man, he lived quite a life.

The genes are strong in that family. His half-brother looks just like him, and his eldest daughter has his big eyes. And the musical talent throughout his family is amazing. His half brother is a conductor of an orchestra, his eldest daughter is a singer/songwriter like her dad, and his little daughters have an ear for music too.

Billy definitely has been through a lot, including losing his money to his manager, who was using him as a personal bank account. He did earn back quite a bit of money, but had to go back on the road again.

I never knew he wrote a classical album. That’s a cool trivia fact.

Again, it’s a must watch. He’s a helluva musician and guy.

@hotdogsladies @siracusa I’m a bit behind, so forgive me if you’ve already discussed this on RecDiffs, but this seems right up your ~alley~ Madison Square Garden.
