Reddit is acting poorly and being draconian with their API access for 3rd party developers. YouTube announced that it won’t quash misinformation on its platform anymore. Facebook is… well… just evil.
With all of these big social sites acting badly the fediverse and the plethera of alternatives are looking better to the average user.
I’m not your average user but I absolutely adore all the alternative open source options there are out there.
Right now I’m active on these platforms:
- Masto.ai – A general purpose Mastodon server that I help adminster.
- Pixey.org and Gram.Social – Two Pixelfed instaces that are like instagram. I help administer those as well.
- Lemmy.world – Just a user of this reddit-esq service. But I’m loving it so far.
Each of the Fediverse alternatives take a little getting used to. But in the end you’re not the product.
