In the latest Daily Tech News Show Friday Live Show the crew discussed whether software is over. This steps from the story that developer Brandon Thomas of Artcraft says he used Claude Opus 5.5 to build “clean-room replacements” for seven Adobe products and is working Microsoft Office replacements soon.
Thomas made news when he declared that software is dead because we can call now vibe code our replacements.
I think this just bluster and software as we know it is indeed changing, but the fact that Thomas used software (Claude) to build his Artcraft Clones (software) just proves that software isn’t going anywhere.
In fact, most people don’t want to use purely vibe coded software without the support of a company behind it. I don’t think Adobe or any big software brands have anything to worry about. And the whole declaration from Thomas was stupid and missed the point.
Is it cool that he developed these clones? Yes. Does this mean any of us can do it? Probably not easily, even vibe coding. Thomas is a seasoned developer so he could orchestrate how Claude did the building.
Just my thoughts.
