There was an interesting post on LinkedIn from a colleague of mine, Mike Krupit, about RTO (return to office) proclamation by Philadelphia’s new mayor.
I’m torn on this.
First off I’m an entrepreneur and my team is 100% remote. We always have been. It never made sense to have an office when all the work can be done remotely.
I do see the value in going into the office, especially for the younger set (ie. those right out of college who would benefit from the socialization), but I also see this diminishing as you get older and have responsibilities that a commute doesn’t allow for those other things to happen.
Cities are definitely suffering with the lack of workers in their downtowns, but there’s other ways of revitalizing these areas than making people suffer through pretty bad commutes to do work they can do from ANYWHERE.
What do you think? Is RTO necessary? Or is it hybrid or none?
