Grief… This Shit Doesn’t Get Easier.

A little shelf area with my late brother's hiking hat and a picture of him in the mountains and a fake decorative plant from Home Goods.

Grief is a weird thing. Anger, sadness, happy memories, acceptance, and then back around again.

Yesterday I got a package in the mail from my Dad and Step-mom. They just got back from Colorado finishing up my late brother’s affairs out there.

The box came, I knew it was a few things of Bret’s that I could have to keep close.

Of course I cried as I opened the box. In it was a note from my parents, Bret’s bike jersey, a t-shirt from one of his favorite places to hang out, and his hiking hat.

I miss him. I miss him more now knowing that I’ll never see him again in this life. That stings like hell. I don’t claim to know what comes after this life, so who knows.

Yea, I still have regrets. But right now, I’m just doing my best to remember the good times that I had with him. Heck even the annoying times when he would torture me as a little kid. I was 13 years older so you know how that can be.

I am happy that I’m staying in touch with my sister more now. So that’s good.

Miss you Bretsky! 💔
