Why I Moved Hosting Providers From Flywheel to Rocket.net

I’m almost full moved to Rocket.net from Flywheel/WPEngine.

For the longest time, I loved Flywheel’s hosting. I love how it was a boutique WordPress optimized host and wasn’t part of the big dogs.

Then WPEngine bought them.

At first it was decent enough. Then they started nickel and diming for every small feature. To get advanced page speed it was ($2/site). To have them update plugins, it was another fee.

I get that WPE wanted to get it’s money from it’s acquisition, but it was getting annoying.

The support was and still is good over at Flywheel. But it’s quicker and more robust at Rocket.net.

Also, I used to have a direct connection to the general manager of the SMB division at Flywheel/WPE, but he’s recently moved on.

At Rocket.net I have a direct line to the CEO/Founder as well as the CTO and Managing Director of WP Growth.

They make themselves available and it’s this white glove approach that I like.

Another thing that worries me is that WPE is rumored (yes, right now it’s a rumor) to be sunsetting the Flywheel brand and interface. I hate the WPE interface. So that was another reason to move.

So that’s where I’m at. I’m about 95% migrated in less than 3 days of minimal work on my side. I’m very happy.

If you want to check out Rocket.net and want to support me in the process click my affiliate link here.

I’ll continue to document how things are going at Rocket.net here.

Cheers!
